Why Do Perth Chimneys Need Lime Mortar?

Failed pointing lets water into the masonry of the stack, which then tracks down inside the chimney breast and shows as damp on a bedroom or living-room wall — often diagnosed wrongly as rising damp or condensation. Repointing the stack in breathable lime mortar, renewing the flaunching, and checking the flashing usually resolves damp that has puzzled homeowners for years. Scaffold, Access and Doing It Once

Chimney work needs safe access to the stack, which on most Perth properties means scaffold or a tower. Because setting up that access is a significant part of the job cost, it makes sense to do everything the stack needs in one visit — repointing, flaunching, pot security, and the lead flashing at the base.
